In Memoriam: Paul Moynihan (1968 – 2025)
It is with deep sorrow that the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland and the pub community mourn the passing of Paul Moynihan, former VFI President and lifelong publican of Donard, County Wicklow, who has passed away aged 57.
Paul served as VFI President during two of the most demanding years in modern memory, guiding the Federation through the turbulence of the COVID-19 crisis. His presidency was marked by a steady commitment to members, tireless advocacy for small pubs under extraordinary pressure and a vision of unity and resilience that strengthened the Federation’s voice at a vulnerable time.
A pillar of his local community in Donard, Paul was known as more than a publican, he was a friend, supporter, and tireless community advocate. Neighbours and colleagues alike often described him as a cornerstone of community life, someone willing to listen and help regardless of the hour.
In his years in the Federation and local trade, Paul worked quietly but effectively, representing rural pub interests and maintaining a steady presence in national debates on excise, VAT and cost-of-doing-business pressures.
The Federation extends heartfelt condolences to his wife, Anna, son, Jack Francis, his wider family and to the staff and patrons of his pub in Donard and to all who knew him.
May he rest in peace.
