The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI) is proud to support the BA in Bar Management Apprenticeship – a practical, industry-led degree designed specifically for the needs of today’s bar trade.
Delivered by Griffith College as the coordinating provider, this three-year, QQI-accredited Level 7 degree is a collaboration between academia, the VFI, and a consortium of experienced publicans. By combining on-the-job training with structured academic study, it offers a clear path for staff to “earn while they learn.”
A Programme Built by the Trade
This course was developed with direct input from industry leaders – including The Old Quarter (Limerick), Paris Texas (Kilkenny), The Silken Thomas (Kildare), and Tullys (Carlow)—to ensure the curriculum reflects the daily realities of running a successful pub. Following a recent revalidation by QQI, the content has been updated based on feedback from graduates to include:
- Bar operations, finance, and procurement
- Legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements
- Food and beverage management and food safety
- Leadership, HR, and personal development
- Modern essentials like digital marketing, social media, and sustainable operations
Benefits for Your Business
Supporting an apprentice is a strategic move for any VFI member. It helps you retain professional staff, introduces fresh ideas to your business, and fosters a learning culture that benefits your entire team. Workplace mentors also have the opportunity to refine their leadership skills, which helps build a stronger, more efficient operation from the ground up.
