Roddy Doyle’s Two Pints has returned for a short run in VFI member pubs in Carlow, Louth and Longford. Following the shows in Ireland, the Abbey Theatre production moves to the UK in late September with plans for multiple American shows in the new year.
Following on from 2017’s successful partnership when the play was hosted in 16 VFI venues, the VFI is once again sponsoring the Irish tour.
Two Pints started as a conversation on Facebook before author Roddy Doyle brought the two characters to life in a play, to be performed in local Irish pubs.
The play centres around two men who meet for a pint. They talk about their Da’s, death, Nigella, North Korea, the afterlife…

Starring Liam Carney and Philip Judge, the audience are invited to pull up a stool and listen in as the friends chew the fat and set the world to rights.
Roddy Doyle said before the first run of shows in 2017: “When I wrote Two Pints, I didn’t envisage it being performed in a pub, but it is part of the adventure. This new play is being put on in a context that is unfamiliar to me – that excites me.”
