MenuCal, the menu calculator tool assesses ingredients, recipes and menus for allergens (and calories if desired).  Since December 2014 it became law for all food businesses to declare food allergens on both prepacked and non-prepacked food so that everyone can get accurate information about allergens when buying food everywhere they go.

The law now covers food and drinks available in Pubs, Hotels, B&B’s, restaurants, takeaways, food ordered electronically, contract catering, delis in retail stores and in market stalls. The tool was developed by a dietitian with input from chefs, caterers and food business owners.  It is available free of charge on the FSAI website www.menucal.ie
